Field Notes

Description:

It is largely characterized by having a domed shell, which is hinged at the bottom, allowing the animal to close its shell tightly to escape predators

Habitat:

Found and photographed in a pine flat woods of a County nature Preserve. I should add that this is the shell only that has been laying exposed to the elements for most likely a few years.

I made an addition in the habitat section regarding its condition.
Is it alive? If it is looks like its shedding its scutes
