Description:

Small, tan to brown spherical puffballs which have reached maturity and are ready to disperse spores via central pores. The inner gleba (spore mass) has aged to an olive green color.

Lycoperdon pyriforme is a saprobe that commonly fruits in autumn. It is also considered a choice edible when fresh.

Habitat:

Growing on a highly decayed log in a dense mixed hardwood/pine forest.
