Field Notes

Description:

Dark cap speckling with white scales on the caps and stems of young specimens. The gills are pale and the stem light brown to grey-brown. The speckles can dissapear with age

Habitat:

On dead wood in wet areas of native forests and woodlands dead wood under the soil also.

Notes:

Mycena nargan, commonly known as the Nargan's bonnet, is a species of fungus in the Mycenaceae family, and the sole member of the section Nargan in the genus Mycena
The only way to distinguish this dark, bell-shaped Bonnet from other dark-capped species is by the speckling of white scales on the caps and stems of young specimens
