Description:
The plumage of the house sparrow is mostly different shades of grey and brown. The sexes exhibit strong dimorphism: the female is mostly buffish above and below, while the male has boldly coloured head markings, a reddish back, and grey underparts (from wikipedia)
Habitat:
House Sparrow are very common in Melbourne, and are not scared of humans at all. The photos here are in a Gloria Jeans Cafe I went to on my recent visit to Melbourne in Early August 2016. The sparrows just flew in and landed right next to me.
Notes:
Sparrows were once quite common in Sydney, but have now virtually disappeared around the city. You can still find them in the outer suburbs but not so many and also in the country areas of NSW.
