Crambid Moth
Petrophila sp.
15.13, -92.3
Field Notes
Description:
A beautiful moth with silver and yellow markings on the upper wings. The underwings have silver bands with 4 black and white spots on the under edges. About 1 cm long. It looks like the genus Eulepidotis, but I can't find a species like this one. Family Crambidae. It has been proposed that the black and white markings of some species of Petrophila resemble a Jumping Spider (http://gilwizen.com/invertebrates/insects/lepidoptera/).
Habitat:
Came to an ultraviolet light, Finca Argovia, Ruta de Café, Soconusco Area of Chiapas, about 2 hours north of Tapachula.
