Hi Muckpuk, no this was not a guided walk. This was a self-guided walk through the forest path at the back of the rehabilitation centre. Not a very long walk either, unfortunately (my travel companion started getting cold feet after a while and we had to backtrack - imagine what else we could have seen)! :)
Did you walk there with a guide? Was it Mon? I worked there....lovely place! Never spotted a lantern fly and feel quite jealous.. :-)
Congratulations Mark!!! Thank you for sharing :)
Beautiful capture Mark, congrats on the well deserved SOTD and thanks for sharing

Hi MarkBolnik! There are many species in the genus Pyrops, and while Pyrops candelaria is the type species yours is Pyrops karenius as identified by Mark Ridgway and agreed by others. As we wish to feature this spotting today I've taken the liberty to make the change for you. Beautiful image!
Yes, looks like Mark's suggestion is a better fit!
Agree with Pyrops karenius.

Great photo, I've always wanted to see one. Please check out the mission Wildlife of Southern Thailand and add the picture if you don't mind.
