Habitat:

Freshwater ponds, streams, canals.

Notes:

Normally forms dense mats floating on the surface. The roots just dangle beard-like in the water. First time spotting 2 small ones in the pond behind my home. I'm sure they floated down from some place, I wonder if they will multiply here.
