Allocasuarina punk
Phaeotrametes decipiens
-37.9502, 145.243
Field Notes
Description:
Small, hard, woody brackets about 50mm across each one. Pore surface is brown but pores have white at exit. Found on a broken branch of Allocasuarina sp.
These specimens have had the cuticle removed or eaten by some agent which reveals the top of the pore tubes. Tiny remnants of the cuticle can still be seen. Really threw me for a moment.
Habitat:
Police Paddocks is a dry semi-open sclrophyll eucalyptus forest but with mixed other plants including allocasuarina, acacia, ghania and Exocarpos cupressiformis.
Notes:
My attention was drawn to this because I had not seen a fungus on Allocasuarina before. It was originally thought to have an exclusive relationship with the genus but has since been found on some others.
