Field Notes

Description:

This was a strange one, I never before saw one of these lizards with this colour of the head... It is hard for me to be sure of species, as two very similar ones are both present in Sierra Leone - Agama agama and Agama africana. Presented here in male, about 25-30 cm long, half of the length is in the tail. The body is flattened, dark grey to black. This one presented an unusual colour of the head, very yellow, while the head and neck are typically orange.

Habitat:

Seen in urban setting of Freetown, sunbathing on cement structures bordering the popular town beach.
