Field Notes

Description:

A large mosquito that does not feed on blood. This mosquito is beneficial as its larvae feeds on the larvae of the normal biting mosquito's. Both male and females feed on Nectar. (Approximately 1.5 cm in length (0.59 inches).

Habitat:

Native to Australia and has a range that covers coastal areas north of Sydney in the states of New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory. I quite often see them in my garden in the warmer months.
