5-7 inch long Skink type reptile with longitudinal stripes of yellow to dark brown, orangish head.

Thank you, Scott for the ID. Sorry took so long to get back.
This could be Plestiodon fasciatus or Plestiodon inexpectatus, both are "five-lined skinks" inhabiting your area. I wanted to say Plestiodon inexpectatus, but really to be sure you need to see the scales on the underside of the tail http://www.virginiaherpetologicalsociety.com/reptiles/lizards/southeastern-five-lined-skink/southeastern_five-lined_skink.php
