Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized attractive butterfly, about 5 cm in wingspan, flying/playing around in small groups of 3 to 5 individus. I find these beauties very attractive, with that dark brown base colour, combined with orange and white design.

Habitat:

Met during my last weekend trek through mixed forest (oak, beech, spruce and fir) on a rolling hills at the feet of Jura range; Geneva lake valley. I observed these beauties in two or three separate groups flying low, close to forest floor.

Notes:

My second butterfly spotting this season, after the winter.
