The wooly bear caterpillar is a caterpillar that can grow up to two inches, and is located in all parts of North America except northern Canada. It mainly eats many different herbs. Grasses, clovers, dandelions, and weeds are some of them. Its fuzzy body is covered in small reddish-brown and black bristles called setae. These bristles can be an irritant to anyone who is holding it. The Wooly Bear Caterpillar’s scientific name is Pyrrharctia Isabella. This caterpillar can spend up to fourteen months in a cocoon, and then emerges as a Isabella Tiger Moth.
