Field Notes

Description:

A pair of Tiny Grass Blue mating in my garden where host plants are plentiful.

The larger one with the brownish upper wing is the female. The male's upper wing is blue. Usually they stay still while mating, but in this pair she seemed to be trying to get away! She twisted all around the leaf pulling the poor male with her. You can see the male hanging on for dear life in the top photo.

Habitat:

Rural garden in tropical thorn forest area
