Field Notes

Description:

This is a female! "The female is slightly paler than the male and lacks the grey crown and black face, instead having a pale buff eye stripe." (Australian Museum)

Habitat:

Hanging on the chicken wire deciding on when to go and chow down on some chook feed in the back yard, Kingaroy. Location is not exact as it was at my family's home.

Notes:

This is not a captive bird! House Sparrows are an introduced species to Australia and quickly became an established pest.

"One of about 25 species in the genus Passer, the house sparrow is native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean region, and much of Asia. Its intentional or accidental introductions to many regions, including parts of Australia, Africa, and the Americas, make it the most widely distributed wild bird." (Wiki)
