Green-headed Tanager
Tangara seledon
-25.63, -54.4308
Field Notes
Description:
One of the most multicoloured of Tanagers. 13cm long, turquoise head, black throat patch, blue breast, yellow green vent and golden collar, along with multiple shades of blue, purple and greens, this has to be one of the most colourful little birds I have ever seen. It also has a bright orange rump that cant be seen in this image.
Habitat:
Found in a small urban garden just on the Argentine side of Iguassu. Usually associated with forest, these birds will frequent quiet gardens.
Notes:
Found primarily in SE Brazil and NE Argentina and into SE Paraguay. It is still a reasonably common endemic to the Atlantic Forest habitat. Ref: The Cornell Lab of Ornithology - Neotropical Birds - Green-headed Tanager.
