Description:

Copaxa Moth which appears to be just recently emerged and early in the season. The bright pink legs contrast with heavily furred yellow of the thorax. These are very large moths that occur from southern Mexico through Honduras. They have 4 small clear windows on the wings. Pictures 1-3 are of the female, Pictures 4-6 are of the male.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Thank you Bill. I separated the female (first 3 pictures) from the male (pictures 4-6).
Yes, a very nice female Copaxa lavendera. You also have the male depicted. He is quite different from the female of this species, having a rounded but produced apex, as well as a much more orangey ground colour. Bill Oehlke
