Description:

Distinctive yellow pouch formed by lower petals, with three twisted petals surrounding

Habitat:

Moist hardwood forests

Notes:

Although it is the most common N. American orchid, it is endangered in some parts of its range due to poaching. Shoots and seeds are notoriously difficult to propagate because of their dependence on certain soil fungi.
