Field Notes

Description:

Large Nudibranch of at least 30 cm but they are known to grow as big as 40 cm. A true giant among Nudibranch as most species are just around 3-4 cm in size.
This one was just plain cream coloured with lots of bumps all over its body.
Pic#1 is a close-up of the front/head showing more details of the Rhinopores. Pic#4 is taken with the dive guide posing next to it to show the size reference.

Habitat:

They are mostly nocturnal species, so was surprised to find this at around 10 meters depth during a day time dive in Gato Island. It was a cloudy day, so probably this one was comfortable to come out during day time.

Notes:

New Organism to Project Noah.
The genus of this Nudibranch are known for their large size. Another species from the same genus can be seen in this Spotting :

Hi Lauren, if you look at the pictures of the whole Nudibranch, its easier to identify it as a Nudibranch as you will see the 2 Rhinopores and the Gills.
Amazing ! I wouldn't have known it was a Nudibranch! It looks like a Lichen!
Yes, @Ava, this one was a Giant among Nudibranch.
That's HUGE for a nudibranch, isn't it? Great notes.
