Field Notes

Description:

Can you see the spider? About 12mm from head to the tip of the abdomen, this orbweaver has a flattened concave body and is able to 'wrap' itself around twigs, making it almost invisible. It's cryptic colouration varies in shades of brown and grey. Usually these spiders rest camouflaged during the day and build a vertical orb web during the night. However, this one was resting at night and I was able to spot it.

Habitat:

Coastal area with plenty of Manuca trees (Leptospermum scoparium) on sandy soil.

Thanks, much appreciated! They're fairly common in Australia, if you can spot them.
I'm dying to find one of these someday! Great spotting!
