Description:
This is a flat-backed species of millipede that is known by various names, such as yellow-spotted millipede, cyanide millipede, or almond-scented millipede. It's fairly easy to spot due to it's black body and yellow spots. These millipedes can produce cyanide to protect themselves from predators like birds or rodents.
Habitat:
These millipedes seem to enjoy hanging around forests where they can munch down on decaying forest litter. They are mainly found along the West coast of the United States, including Alaska, but are also found further East into the country.
Notes:
This specific specimen was about 4 centimeters long.
