Field Notes

Description:

Rare small plant that grows in deciduous forests of N. Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey. Yellow flowers with purple-violet hairy filaments. Leaf rosettes flat on the ground, with dark green and purple tinged leaves that are deeply veined and almost glabrous (see 6th photo).

Habitat:

Small clearing in oak forest (altitude 1000 m.).

Notes:

The plant is traditionally used as phytotherapeutic agent due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is rich in phenylethanoid andiridoid metabolites with anti-inflammatory properties.
