Description:
Youngia japonica is a BIENNIAL growing to 0.6 m (2ft). The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil.
Attracts the Burnsius butterfly, which is a new genus of the checkered skipper.
Habitat:
Near the head of a hiking trail, Porters Creek, located in the Great Smoky Mountains.
