No, it is not too early. I have seen 2 to date this year. One I have posted and another coming. I am learning from PN individuals about this spider. I am no expert, but besides the crab like stance, they have those indentations on the top of their abdomen. Could be 2, could be 4.(Correct me if I`m wrong.)
I keep finding these spiders. Inside and out. All different . :)
I think you should check the Running Crab Spiders, Family Philodromidae. Maybe Genus Philodromus.

It could be a young one. I found an adult Running Crab Spider last fall and it was larger than what you are describing but it was fast!
