Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Pyrginae; Tagiades japetus titus Plötz, 1884. This butterfly is a spread-winged skipper from the subfamily Pyrginae. When they are at rest the wings are held in the closed position, but when basking in the morning sunshine, like the one shown here, the wings are spead flat. This description is paraphrased from Philippine Lepidoptera's notes on the Pyrginae.

Habitat:

Spotted in foliage at the side of a narrow track. The area is sparsely populated and mostly covered by remnants of tropical forest.

Notes:

According to Wikipedia, this subspecies is endemic to the Philippines.
