Field Notes

Description:

Small compact Heron. Dark cap, maroon brown neck and underside. Dark gray-green wings. Light color streaks on chin. Dagger like bill. This is one pair and nest.

Habitat:

Shoreline of creeks, ponds and lakes

Notes:

I spotted 3 around the pond so there maybe 2 pairs here. The other one I saw chased these off so it may have gotten too close to another nest. These birds looked disappointed on the nest and it does look like it's sliding off. We have been having some high winds lately.
