Field Notes

Description:

Cap, ca 2.5-3.0 inches diameter; lilac with brown areas; dry.
Gills. Lilac-colored; close. Brown deposit, same color as spores, at the margin.
Stipe. Ca 0.75 inches diameter; dry; hairy near apex; slightly swollen at the base.
Threads of cortina evident at margin of cap and on stipe
Context of cap and top of stipe white to slightly yellow in the center of the cap, stained blue immediately when cut. Staining faded with time.
No distinctive odor or taste.
Spore print. Brown
KOH (3%). No staining on cap.

Habitat:

Lone mushroom, growing through leaf litter in primarily deciduous woods; on east-facing slope by trail above a lake.
