Hi Anne , I don't know if you still need an ID for this beetle ,but I think it might be --Microctenochira vivida.I spotted what looks like the same species in CR this year and after some searching found a possible ID.
Chrysomelidae, Cassidinae.
Closest I can get: Ischnocodia annulus - Target beetle from Panama
Thank you for the suggestion Johan. There are a lot of Aspidimorpha species! After looking at a sampling of them I notice they all seem to be from the region surrounding the Indian Ocean, and maybe is not very likely for Costa Rica???
Thank you for the suggestion Mary, but Cassida versicolor is an asian species and wouldn't be found in Costa Rica.
