Description:

Small duck, drake has a black to iridescent blue to green head with a large white pathch on the back of the head. Upper body is black while the breast, sides, rump and underpants are white. Female is darkly colored with a white patch on the cheek.

Habitat:

Wooded or forested lakes and ponds
