Description:

The White-banded Plane Butterfly is black above with narrow white band across the hindwings. The forewings have a number of white spots. The underside of the wings has a similar pattern but is brown instead of black. They have a wingspan 55mm - 57mm

Habitat:

Found near rainforest edges, vine thickets, suburban gardens. Range
coastal eastern Australia from Cape York in Queensland to central New South Wales

Thanks for the ID Martin! At the moment there are lots of these guys, as well as many other species flying around in great numbers. I was amazed to see so many butterflies at once!

The colors may look dull for a butterfly but its a terrific spotting. This is called the common aeroplane. I've never seen a live one. Thanks for sharing.
