Field Notes

Description:

The body is a tan-brown with dark spots on it. Within the dark spots are several warts, and there is a light dorsal stripe extending down the back. The belly has a single black spot.

Habitat:

Found in the southeastern US in open woodland areas. This guy was found on the road on a warm night.

Notes:

The toads in East Texas are a giant mess right now and many people are not sure exactly what species are there and many of the toads have characteristics of multiple species, but when genetic work was done a few years ago, it was reported there were no hybrids. I am going to be doing some genetic work in east Texas this summer, so hopefully I can make something out of the whole mess!
