Oyster Mushrooms
Pleurotus ostreatus
34.5115, -93.2818
Field Notes
Description:
The biggest and most beautiful cluster of Oyster Mushrooms I have ever had the privilege of seeing with my own eyes. Found on Christmas, too. They have quite a fragrant smell when damaged, and are a popular forage item, being edible and versatile in recipes.
Habitat:
We found this on a fallen (unidentified) tree. There were many standard Arkansas trees present, such as hickory, oaks, and loblolly pines. This dead tree was against a slope beside a full, clear stream.
