Field Notes

Description:

Looks like some sort of leafhopper? Beautiful turquoise and black on the wings and behind the eyes. Yellow and black on the head and scutellum (my new word of the week).

Habitat:

I saw it at local bird park that has a pollinator garden and marshy ponds. The tree it was on had something wrong with it. The leaves were distorted and twisted. I don't know what type of tree it was. With that said, it was covered with different insects.

Also called a Broad-headed Sharpshooter. :-) https://bugguide.net/node/view/7355
Mark, I agree. It's a beautiful critter. The turquoise and yellow look like ceramic glaze. Love it!
Wow! That was fast! Thanks. Best, Edie
