Harnessed Tiger Moth
Apantesis phalerata
16.7354, -92.6387
Field Notes
Description:
Yellow, orange and black Tiger Moth. 1 cm long.
This could actually be one of several species of Apantesis, since they are very difficult to tell apart and often require an examination of the genitalia for positive identification. It seems the closest to A. phalerata based on color and wing patterns. They can have pink, orange or yellow coloring and are more yellow-orange in the southern extension of their range.
Habitat:
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, 2,200 meters.
