Field Notes

Description:

Tiny orange cup fungi that were 1-5mm in size. The outer edges of the fruiting bodies were covered with long, dark hairs that resemble eyelashes. There were a couple dozen growing in small clusters.

Habitat:

Growing on rotting wood in a mostly deciduous forest.

Notes:

Maybe Scutellinia scutellata?

Thanks. I had been searching specifically for this cup fungi on this hike, and was about to give up when I finally found it. Quite a few of them were in the 5mm range, which is the large compared to what I've found in the past.
