Field Notes

Description:

A succulent shrub, to 6m (20') tall, this subspecies is endemic to the island of Socotra and is not threatened.

Habitat:

rocky valleys, limestone plateaus

Notes:

I spent two weeks on the island on a private tour and this was one plant I really wanted to see. Well, I wasn't disappointed! I saw at least thousands of them, some valleys and areas they were the dominant and sometimes only species present. Endless shapes and sizes, it was difficult not to photograph them all.
