Field Notes

Description:

Often viewed as the Classic Looney Tunes character the Greater Roadrunner is one of the symbols of the desert southwest. They are fast and prefer to run rather than fly which they can if they cant outrun a pursier. The roadrunner is known to eat bugs, snakes, lizards, hummingbirds and other things it might find tasty. These birds have four toes two in the back and two in the front for traction. Instead of going beep beep like the Roadrunner Cartoon Character the Roadrunner makes a dove like cooing and a kind of barking sound. They are large and are a beautiful bird.

Habitat:

Grasslands and open areas.
