Hi, wow amazing that there are people here looking to id plants in upstate new york. Pretty sure this is a cornellian cherry-
I'm not sure what it is but it is definitely not Kangaroo paw, they are an Australian native. I've never seen them in N. America.
Kinda looks like a Kangaroo Paw in my opinion.
