Field Notes

Description:

I know the picture isn't the greatest but I am positive on the ID due to the pattern of the markings and the behavior of the bird moving up a tree trunk, circling in spirals probing for insects then dropping down to the base of the next tree which I saw this particular bird do several times.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard.

They are pretty neat, it's always a treat to find them! And yea, I had to find quite a few before I finally got some good pictures. I'm sure you will see more, they breed near you so should be around all summer :)
Thanks, Ashley! I found him right in my backyard! I don't ever remeber seeing one before. I hope to get better pics but as you know these little guys are quick!
Nice find, Phil! Love these little guys, and I know how hard they are to take pictures of :)
