Field Notes

Description:

These little moths are the only insects that will pollenate the Yucca Plant they have an exclusive relationship that is truly special to the survival of the Yucca Moth. The female Yucca Moth in return for all of her hard work as a reward she gets to lay her eggs in the ovary of the plant and the seed will develop with the egg inside. The Yucca seed pod has many seed sections but when the Caterpillar hatches it will only eat the seeds on one side of the seed leaving the rest to grow. They chew there way through the pod and then burrows into the ground and then form it's cocoon. Yucca Moths are very small and white. They are like most moths and are Nocturnal.

Habitat:

Anywhere Yucca is present.
