Field Notes

Description:

A HUGE fat grub I found crawling through the red beet patch in my garden. About 2 1/2" maybe 3" long, far as my thumb. Big pinching mandibles and a nasty temper to go along with them.

Habitat:

Sandy Backyard. In veggie garden.

Notes:

I'm thinking this may be a rhinoceros beetle larvae. I hope so--- I'd live to raise it to adulthood at the science center where I work. How cool would that be for the kids to see?!
