We've got a laccaria around here which looks identical from above and on the stipe but of course the gills are nothing at all similar... mimicry?
Actually it's still very warm - we're 'enjoying' an Indian summer ...temps = min 15C and max 25C (60F to 75F) and also a nasty drought. I looked at F.velutipes - possible but need to check against other records and local species. Thanks for the suggestion. This one shouldn't be too hard ... (every time I say that these fungi slap me around the head :)
Perhaps Flammulina velutipes. Was it found during a cold time of year?
