Field Notes

Description:

Best recognised for a call that resembles po-ta-to-chip these birds are common to see during the spring and summer in Toronto. When feeding they will hang upside-down and will flock to feeders that contain sunflower seeds.

Habitat:

Easily found with its vibrant golden yellow feathers, these birds spend a lot of their time in gardens, weedy fields and along roadsides.

Notes:

These two birds have been frequenting my birdfeeders over the past two weeks but this was the only time I could get a picture of them. They do not stay in one place for long and instead seem to rotate their location between my rosebush, feeder, driveway and tree.

In the background a House Sparrow is visible. The Sparrows live near my house year-round and are not territorial towards the smaller birds, and actually have become accustomed to my dog who likes to watch them.
