Field Notes

Description:

Drake has a black head with a very distinctive white patch that extends from behind the eye around the back of the head to the other eye. Breast is white, with black stripe then more white on the side. Sides are chestnut brown with darker brown wavy markings. Hen is gray to brown with darker brown head.

Habitat:

Wooded ponds and lakes

Notes:

Drakes body colors are very striking and as field marks are quite distinctive.
