Description:
These are the most commonly encountered large snakes in most of North Carolina. They have highly variable color patterns, ranging from solid black in the mountains and Piedmont to yellowish-green with dark stripes in the Coastal Plain. This snake prefers heavily wooded areas and is known for having excellent climbing ability, including the ability to climb the trunk of large mature trees without the aid of branches.
Habitat:
Hanging out in a tree over a spotting platform in a swampy area of a nature reserve
