Field Notes

Description:

Tiny, pale (whitish with some tan), gilled mushrooms. Delicate with thin white stems. Caps turn grayish as they age. These mushrooms can be found growing in huge clusters. Unlike other mushrooms in this genus, it does not go to ink when it decays, rather, the caps crumble.

Habitat:

Growing on a rotting tree trunk. Temperate woodland. Rockwood Park, Virginia.
