Field Notes

Description:

One of the few trees in the Southern Rockies that show fall color change. Smooth white bark and leaves that start off light green, but turn yellow to orange. Notorious for their ability to scar darkly, very few escape human carvings.

Habitat:

Usually found between 5000ft- 12,00ft above sea level and in montane, and sub-alpine forests.

Notes:

Usually the first tree to colonize after mountain fires and can be crowded out by growing pines.
