Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker
Sphyrapicus varius
32.6732, -97.2085
Field Notes
Description:
These are one of my favorite Woodpeckers on Earth. These guys are known for eating sap. They are best known for creating sap wells. These birds have a nice color to their breasts and they have two red spots on their head one above and one below the beak. They are black and white on the rest of their body and are a beautiful winter time bird in Texas. This one was taken in my front yard on my neighbor's Yopahn Holly tree. This guy even took a berry.
Habitat:
forests where sap and berries are present.
