Field Notes

Description:

Very similar looking to Omphalotus illudens, AKA the Jack O' Lantern. Both species are said to be bioluminescent and are both toxic lookalikes to chanterelles. They have the decurrent gills that chanterelles have, but are much more orange and grow in clumps that attach at the base, whereas chanterelles grow singly.

Habitat:

Pine and oak forest; Churchhouse Hammock Trail
