Description:
Family: Crambidae
Subfamily: Pyraustinae
Identification: Dark brown with yellow patches on front and hind wings. Dark stripe down center of yellow head and thorax. Red abdomen with two narrow bluish bands across rear end.
Wing Span: 1.5 cm.
Life History: Flies rapidly but short distance when disturbed, tends to settle on underside of foliage.
Flight: June - December. All year in Florida.
Caterpillar Hosts: Mostly unknown, but includes plants in Rubiaceae.
Adult Food: Flowers, such as Bidens alba.
Habitat:
Habitat: Weedy and brushy areas.
Range: Georgia to Florida, west to Texas. Also Neotropics.
Notes:
I found this in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
